2010 Annual Conference and Serve Day

Representative will meet at 10 am at Canyon Hills Friends Church.

Register for the Connecting Lunch at Canyon Hills Friends Church. Cost is $8 per person.

Following the Representative session EFC-SW will host a Conversation Café at Rose Drive Friends Church. The café will be open for your refreshment between the closing of the Representative Session and the Equipping Community Dinner.

The Equipping Community Dinner begins at 6:30 pm. at Rose Drive Friends Church (4221 Rose Dr. Yorba Linda, CA). Cost for the dinner is $15 per person. This will be a great opportunity to enjoy a great dinner, fellowship with friends and hear from Stan Leach as he shares his 2010 vision for the churches of EFC-SW. Click here to register.


January 30, 2010 – SERVE DAY OPPORTUNITIES

Serve Day begins at 8:30am and goes until 3 unless otherwise noted. We need YOU to participate with us in one of the local Serve Day projects. We will update this page as details of the various projects develop. Please check back often to get updated information. So, take a look at the projects and click here to register for the project of your choice. We will email your contact information to the Team Leader so that they can communicate directly with you about your project details.

Free Encouragement Project (Meet at Granada Heights Friends Church, Joy Hall, 11818 La Mirada Blvd., La Mirada)
Holding “Free Encouragement” signs in public places (street corners, shopping centers, etc.) and handing out encouraging notes about God’s great love for everyone. This project begins at 10:00 am. There will be a brief time of training followed by prayer. Bring one poster board or foam board (yellow is best) to make a “Free Encouragement” sign. This is a family friendly project!

Planting a Hillside in a Low Income Housing Area
Project: Landscaping the hillside

The serving location is on a cul-de-sac and will be blocked off for the dinners so we will be having you park at Melrose Elementary School. Once you park you will walk over the bridge and the entrance to the cul-de-sac will be on your left hand side.

Baby Shower for Birth Choice Health Clinics
Project: A baby shower for women who have chosen life for their baby. Let's shower these families with baby clothes (boy/girl, any size), baby blankets or diapers (any size). You can also purchase pre-natal vitamins, which the clinic provides for each pregnant woman who is seen at the clinic.
Location: Placentia Birth Choice Health Clinic, 2001-D E. Orangethorpe Avenue, Placentia, CA 92870
Time: 9am to 12noon. Bring in your shower gift and allow time to take a short tour of the clinic, learn about the various services that are provided at the clinic and how you can get involved.

Widow’s Backyard Makeover Project
Project: We are redoing the backyard of a young widow. We will be building a deck, planning and other things.
Location: Anaheim Hill (Once you registered you will be sent directions.)

Painting in the Park
Project: Painting in the park in Placentia.
Location: Champions’ Park on Jefferson and Alta Vista in Placentia.

Lay Carpet for Community Center
Project: Lay new carpet for a Community Center in Placentia.
Location: Koch Park on Valencia Ave. in Placentia

Service Project at Rio Hondo Elementary School
(11425 Wildflower Road, Arcadia)
This project will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2010 beginning at 8am
Projects are painting, setting tile, clean up and planting trees around the campus.

Community Projects near Puente De Gracia (1690B North Placentia Ave. One block south of Yorba Linda Blvd. in Fullerton).
Neighborhood cleanup projects on Topaz, Garnet and Pearl Streets. Some participants will also be cleaning the church building inside and out. This is a family friendly project!
Team Leaders: David Jaimes from Puente de Gracia and Jerry Costley from Rose Drive Friends.

Pasadena Bad Weather Shelter Project (Meet at the shelter at Evangelical Covenant Church, 539 N. Lake Ave., Pasadena)
This project will take place on January 22 at 6 pm. Participants will help cook, serve dinner, set up beds and check people in who are using the shelter that night. During the winter months there are anywhere from 120 to 200 people (singles and families) who are housed at the shelter each night.

Food Ministry Garden Project
Projects: General cleanup, drip line maintenance, “Railroad Bed” cleanup and prep, expand master plan by starting orchard, dig orchard irrigation lines, and spread wood chips for weed abatement). This garden began the summer of 2009 as a Gospel outreach ministry that provides fresh food for the less fortunate in the community. The food harvest has been distributed through Glendora’s Shepherd’s Pantry.(Meet at Glendora Friends Church, 827 S. Lone Hill Ave., Glendora)
Time: First shift from 9 am – noon. Lunch from 12-1 pm. Second shift from 1-4 pm

Serve Day Registration Information: Please register in advance to participate in Serve Day. You are free to sign up for any project that fits with your interest. Once registered, you will receive electronic confirmation of your registration along with timely email updates to keep you informed and help prepare you for the day of activities. Because these projects grow in scope, description and number as our day of serving nears, we will be able to keep you informed of all important event updates by e-mail notification.
