Happenings

It never fails.  Things seem to really be getting moving in ministry and we are heading off to the States for our home assignment.  Gary has a favorite barber shop he uses, and has been talking with the owner for over a year now about Christ, invited him to church, or to studying something together.  The barber finally agreed just a few weeks ago to begin studying Firm Foundations.  Gary explained to him that he wouldn't be able to teach it, because he would be leaving, but Pastor Poa would be able to come and teach through the book with him.  It is exciting that he has agreed to learn more.  Pray for Mr. Sokha and this opportunity for him to hear the Word.

Gary and the boys took a motorbike trip to the Wat Bacaan area to visit the believers there.  Not many of the people in the area had ever seen a big motorcycle before, so shortly after they arrived, the boys were quickly surrounded by a large group all wanting to talk with them and see these white kids with big motorbikes.  Gary was surprised at the large crowd that gathered so quickly.  It was a good opportunity to meet some new people in that area.

Several new leaders from Phnom Basaac, Wat Bacan, and Pray Svay will begin a pastoral course of TEE (Theological Education by Extension).  This is a huge commitment for them since the material is a bit harder, and the time commitment is significant to go to Pray Svay once a month for a full day of study.  We were hoping it would be twice a month, but the costs are more than what we have in our budget this year since money is tight.  Please pray for the students that they would be able to keep their commitments to attend the class, be able to understand the material, and for the finances to keep this class going.

Personal Update

Gary is taking graduate classes through Azusa Pacific University and spent two weeks in Singapore before our home assignment.  He hurt his back just two days before he left and has been in severe pain.  He was able to go to the doctor before he left and they gave him some muscle relaxers to help.  They are not sure if he slipped a disc, pinched a nerve, or ruptured something.  He needed to get a scan done, but there wasn't enough time for him to do so.  He has been managing, but sitting in a classroom all day isn't really helping.  Please pray that his back will heal quickly and that it isn't anything serious.

The boys and Christine will also go to Singapore for Christine’s younger brother’s wedding.  We will then head back to Phnom Penh till Gary is finished with his classes before we head out together for our home assignment in the States.  We are looking forward to spending time with the churches, family, and friends this summer.  Pray for our time with the churches and that the Lord would be with us in our presentations of His work in Cambodia the past two years.

Praises
  • The Battambang Church seems to be moving forward together in unity and shared vision in ministry.
  • God is good, all the time.

 Prayer Requests

  • Desire for the Church and members to continue to work in ministry together and to reach out to their community.
  • Pray that the youth will be motivated to serve and help the church. Recently there have been several robberies at the church, with thieves stealing clothes, money and telephones.  Please pray that the Lord would protect the property and youth living at the church.
  • Pray for Gary's back that it would heal quickly.
  • Pray for our time on Home assignment.
