Happenings
We are on our way to Phnom Penh. August was a busy month in Battambang with many visitors through town, the national youth retreat, Abby's birthday, Diane's trip to Thailand, and Fede preaching his first sermon in Khmer. We enjoyed all the activity while at the same time continuing our cultural research and studying language with our tutor, Sovann. We've also had some special times with friends we've made in the park here and friends we've made at the hotel and pool. We will miss these friends and miss having people who know us as we move to Phnom Penh to begin again. At the same time, we are excited to get the kids settled into school and a routine in Phnom Penh and to have our own house again. We're looking forward to studying language at the university and making new friends in our neighborhood and at Phnom Penh Friends Church.
Personal Update
We praise God that we have all been well these five months in Battambang. We also praise Him for the gracious host family he provided for us and the relationships we were able to build with them. I (Diane) was nervous about living in someone else's house with two small children, but God is so faithful and I can't think of a better place for us to have spent our first five months in Cambodia. Please pray for us in the coming months as we enter full-blown transition again--our move to Phnom Penh will be our 6th move in just one year. We are definitely feeling a need to unpack and plant roots somewhere, and we're praying that the transition to Phnom Penh is smooth and that we'll be able to settle quickly and make good friends.

We were able to make nice friends here in Battambang and get to a place where we felt like we belonged.

We're thankful that our Khmer is coming along--we still have a long way to go, but it's a great feeling to be able to communicate basic things in Khmer and not feel helpless.

Our kids have adjusted really quickly to the language and culture, and they are happy here.

Our move to Phnom Penh--please pray that we will be able to find a good school for the kids and that they'll make friends and settle in quickly. Please pray also for God to lead us to a house that we can make "home" for the next year.

Please pray that we'll be able to maintain a relationship with our host family in Battambang and build new relationships in our Phnom Penh neighborhood.

Please pray for continued health and safety.

Please continue to pray for our language learning--pray that we'll be able to retain all we're learning and stay focused and motivated to give it our all.
About the Hernandez Family
Federico and Diane Hernandez are serving in Southeast Asia (Cambodia). They met in Guatemala where Diane was serving a one-year assignment with Servant Ministries through Yorba Linda Friends Church. Fede and Diane both have a long history in a variety of ministries in their home churches. Before joining the EFC-SW mission, they were involved in a church plant in Allentown, PA.
Fede and Diane are in their first term, currently living in Battambang. They are focused on language and culture learning. Please pray for them during this time of transition.

Noticias personales:
Estamos a punto de mudarnos a vivir a Phnom Penh. Agosto fue un mes ocupado en Battambang con muchas visitas: El retiro nacional de jóvenes, el cumpleaños de Abby, el viaje de Diane a Tailandia, y Fede preparando su primer mensaje en Khmer. Hemos y estamos disfrutando todas las actividades y al mismo tiempo continuamos nuestras investigación acerca de la cultura y estudiando con nuestro maestro, sovann. Hemos pasado un buen tiempo con amigos que hemos hecho en el parque y amigos que hemos hecho en el hotel y piscina. Vamos a extrañar a nuestros amigos aquí en Battambang al irnos a Phnom Penh y empezar de nuevo. Al mismo tiempo, estamos emocionados que los niños van a empezar su escuela en ingles y una nueva rutina en Phnom Penh, y poder estar en nuestra propia casa de nuevo.
Estamos con empezar a estudiar el lenguaje en la universidad y hacer nuevos amigos en nuestro vecindario y en la iglesia Amigos de Phnom Penh.
Alabamos a Dios de que todos hemos estado bien durante estos cinco meses en Battambang. También alabamos a Dios por la familia Camboyana que nos proporciono y las relaciones que hemos podido establecer con ellos. Yo (Diane) estaba temerosa de vivir en la misma casa con otra familia, mas porque tenemos 2 niños pequeños, pero Dios ha sido fiel y no puedo pensar en otro mejor lugar para haber pasado nuestros primeros cinco meses en Camboya. Por favor oren que en los próximos meses, mientras empezamos nuestra transición de nuevo--nuestro viaje a Phnom Penh será nuestra 6ta mudanza en solamente un año. Definitivamente sentimos el deseo de finalmente desempacar todas nuestras cosas y echar raíces en un lugar; y estamos orando que la transición a P.P. sea grata y fácil para instalarnos y hacer nuevos amigos.
Alabamos a Dios por las siguientes oraciones contestadas:

Que dios nos ha permitido hacer buenos amigos aquí en Battambang y venir a un lugar en donde nos han recibido bien.

Estamos agradecidos con Dios que nuestro aprendizaje del idioma va avanzando poco a poco--Tenemos mucho camino por delante, pero es bueno sentir que podemos comunicarnos a un nivel básico y no sentirnos inútiles por completo.

Nuestros hijos han tenido una adaptación rápida al lenguaje y cultura, y están siendo felices acá.
Por favor ayúdenos en oración por lo siguiente:

Nuestra mudanza a Phnom Penh--oren por favor que podamos encontrar una buena escuela para los niños y que ellos se adapten y hagan amigos rápido. Por favor oren que Dios nos guíe a una casa en donde vivir por un año.

Por favor oren que podamos continuar en comunicación con nuestra familia Camboyana en Battambang y crear nuevas relaciones en nuestro futuro vecindario en Phnom Penh.

Por favor continúen orando por nuestro aprendizaje del idioma--oren de que podemos retener todo lo aprendido, y que aprendamos y nos mantengamos enfocados y motivados para dar lo mejor de nosotros.
