About the Swards
Scott and Andrea Sward met while serving on a short-term mission trip to Central America. Andrea had grown up in Guatemala as the daughter of Friends missionaries. Scott came to Christ at Yorba Linda Friends Church while a freshman in college. During the time they were dating, Scott and Andrea began sensing the Lord’s call to ministry in Southeast Asia. Since marrying in 2001, they have lived and served among the Cambodian community in Long Beach as members of Long Beach Friends Church. In 2008, the Sward family was planning to depart for Cambodia as career missionaries. Tragically, just days prior to their scheduled departure, they were involved in an auto accident which took the life of their 17 month old son, Isaac, and severely injured Andrea. Scott and Andrea continued to sense God’s call to Cambodia, and arrived in Phnom Penh in September 2009. Please pray for Scott and Andrea as they focus on language learning and relationship building during their first term.
