New Worship and Ministry Center
for Phnom Penh Friends Church
Why
do we build buildings?
A
brief history of our church planting ministry in Cambodia?
What Are We Building?
The Phnom Penh Friends Church is growing and has started construction
on a new church building. They have held church services and
classes in a rented building since 1997. In 2004 land was purchased
in Phnom Penh for the construction of a new church and training
center. In January of 2007 they moved into a new temporary worship
building that was constructed on the property. This initial
building will serve as class rooms in the future. Construction
on the main church building began in April of 2007. This building
is a three story structure and will have a worship center as
well as classrooms and offices. The new building will help the
Phnom Penh church expand its vision for reaching new believers.
It is a project that our Cambodian church family is really excited
about and that the Efcsw
mission
team here has helped in the planning
process for over two years.
This project is a joint effort between the EFCSW Mission and
the Phnom Penh Friends Church. EFCSW is providing funds for
the basic framework of the building, which includes the foundation,
support columns, concrete floors at each level and the roof.
We are also providing funds for two bathrooms and for the construction
of one office. The Phnom Penh Church is taking responsibility
to providing for the finishing of the project. This includes
the exterior walls, interior walls for classrooms and meeting
rooms, plastering exterior and interior walls, windows and security
bars, doors, electrical, flooring and paint.
What Is The Need?
We have now completed the construction of the ground floor foundation
and columns and the first floor concrete slab. We will begin
construction on the second floor columns and slab in January
2008. This phase will take approximately three months to complete.
In order to help finish the basic building frame work,
we need to raise an additional $40,000. This works out to about
$15.00 a square foot. The money will be used to complete the
third floor columns and roof beams, roof trusses, roofing material
and bathroom walls and fixtures.
Greater Ministry Impact
The first part of the book of Ezra relates the story of Israel’s
return from exile and the rebuilding of the temple. The building
of the temple required a great effort by all the people, not
only the leaders and those involved in the project, but the
whole community. “Their neighbors rallied behind them
enthusiastically with silver , gold, tools, pack animals, gifts,
and, over and above these , Freewill Offerings.(Ez 1:6)”
It takes many people, gifts and skills to build a church to
glorify God.
The “Foundation” has been laid. Please join us
in praising God for what he has done and also get involved with
our Family here in Cambodia and help us raise funds to complete
the framework for this building. We would hope that many individuals
or families would help in purchasing just one or a few square
feet and become part of the vision for the church in Cambodia.
The potential for reaching this community for Christ is unpresidented.
People are meeting Jesus Christ for the first time here, and
stepping up as leaders in the movement of the Holy Spirit bring
individuals and families to faith in Christ. It is truly exciting!
